Preliminary Findings on Foresight Modelling Project

Pathways and Priorities for Inclusive Resilient, Low-Carbon Development and Climate Finance presents a detailed overview of an ongoing initiative by the Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS) and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), under CGIAR’s Future Food Systems, aimed at supporting Nepal’s transition to an inclusive, resilient, and low-carbon development pathway. The initiative responds to Nepal’s heightened vulnerability to climate change, despite its negligible greenhouse gas emissions, by using advanced foresight modelling and evidence-based analysis to evaluate the economic impacts of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0. The research examines how sustainable practices in agri-food systems, energy, transport, and climate finance can influence economic growth, employment, poverty reduction, income distribution, and structural transformation. It also explores potential trade-offs and sectoral shifts that may result from low-carbon transitions, while highlighting the importance of aligning national policies with climate goals.

The findings will strengthen collaboration between CGIAR, IIDS, Nepalese government institutions, and technical partners while defining a roadmap for policy integration and investment planning across multiple sectors and needs for Nepalese stakeholders.
